Inaugural Green Thumb award winner Marie Wright

Councillor Mike Duncan presents Marie Wright with the inaugural Titahi Bay Horticultural Society Green Thumb Award. The new award recognises a society member who shares their gardening enthusiasm and skill to benefit the wider community.

Marie has, for over forty years, tended the gardens of St Timothy's Church and the area around the Surf Club at Tithai Bay. She does this for love, and often has propagated the plants that she uses. And those areas are always immaculate. In addition, Marie makes floral arrangements for individuals and groups. Her own garden is stunning. She is a totally worthy recipient.

Marie's community contribution has been recognised a number of times previously:

In May 1991 Marie was awarded the first Te Awa-iti's first Good Citizen Award, for her work in beautifying the Titahi Bay beach area.

In August 1991 the Porirua City Council Parks and Harbour Committee sent her a letter congratulating her for her civic pride and efforts to improve the environment around her.

In June 2014 she received a City of Porirua Mayoral Certificate of Recognition for her outstanding service to the Porirua Community.

Congratulations Marie!
